On June 2, 2022, Stephen F. Tomasek, Jr. died peacefully in his sleep at the age of 82 following hip surgery complications. Steve spent the last few years living at Brighton Gardens of Columbia after a stroke left him paralyzed on one side. The staff adopted Steve as a father, big brother and friend. He, in turn, treated everyone as family.

Steve was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on December 24, 1939. He attended Augusta Military Academy, and Washington and Lee University. Steve served in the Army from 1962 to 1970 including a tour in Vietnam during the conflict. Following his military career, Steve worked for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and graduated from the University of Baltimore Law School.

Anyone who knew Steve recognized his brilliance. He was able to hold a conversation regarding any subject and amaze you with obscure tidbits of facts. His broad knowledge and insights into people kept him locked and loaded for witty sarcasm and plays on words. For example, he drew attention to himself during several trivia games when he was the sole responder. Afterwards he was asked to no longer participate. Being quiet was not an option for him.

Steve was predeceased by his wife, Ann Tomasek, his mother, Mary Guthrie and his father Stephen F. Tomasek.

Steve is survived by his stepdaughters Linda Abey and Denise Cruz; grandchildren Lisa Wieler, Kelly Foster, Dustin Cruz; and great grandchildren Morgan Wieler, Macy Wieler, Madison Wieler, Jalen Thompson, Jaeda Thompson, Jace Thompson and Cora Cruz. Although Steve was not blood related, he was our father, grandfather, and great grandfather. We loved him.
