Steve Manger, 73, was the third of six children born to Clarence and Katherine Manger in Evansville, Indiana. He was a medic in the USAF stationed at Offutt in Omaha, Nebraska, and Eielson in Fairbanks, Alaska. Steve received degrees in the Life Sciences, Ecology and Public Health from Indiana State, Iowa State and Colorado University. Over his career he worked for EPA in Indiana and South Dakota; Nuclear Regulatory Commission in D.C. and Office of Surface Mining in Denver. Steve was a children’s bereavement volunteer and ethics committee member of the Hospice of Metro Denver. He was also a therapeutic recreation volunteer on the oncology and rehabilitation units at the Children’s Hospital of Denver. Steve volunteered as a GED tutor assigned to the Denver County Jail tutoring male and female inmates in mathematics and writing. He also prepared state and federal tax returns for low-income individuals at an inner-city community center. Steve devoured non-fiction books on many subjects. He enjoyed vacations to our National Parks, traveling through Europe and England; hiking, canoeing, woodworking. Preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mary Katherine, infant children, Marie and James and infant grandson, Cricket. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joann; son Mark; daughter, Heidi Donovan (Michael) and grandsons, Gerik and Rowan; brothers, John(Ruby); Michael (Chris); sisters, Anna Lythgoe (Steve) and Teresa Moore (Dan). Steve was smart, loving and wise. He faced cancer with curiosity, courage, hope and humor. His family and friends will miss his quick wit and sense of humor; his compassion and generosity; and his deep and insightful conversations on a variety of topics. In sickness and in health, his family and friends loved and treasured him.
