Stephen Douglas Foster, the son of Orville James and Thelma Mae Dewey Foster was born on December 6, 1951 in Newton, Iowa. He was a graduate of Newton High School in 1970 and received his B. S. in Business Administration from Columbia College in Huntsville, Alabama.

Stephen served his country in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War, serving from March 1969 until he retired in March of 1989.

On December 18, 1971 Stephen was united in marriage with Kathy D. Purvis in Kellogg, Iowa. They were blessed with two children, Jason and Jennifer. After retiring from the U. S. Army he worked for the Department of Defense as a Program Manager of Utility Helicopters in Huntsville. They had lived in Harvest, Alabama since 1997; other places they lived were Hazelwood, Missouri, Frankfurt, West Germany and Brooklyn, New York. He was a member of American Legion Post 229 in Madison, Alabama, the NRA and Vietnam Veterans of America. Stephen loved being with his family especially the grandchildren and great-grandson.

Stephen died on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at the Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-dad, Dale Clubb; wife, Kathy in 2012; two brothers, Dennis and James Foster; father-in-law, Floyd L. Purvis; sister-in-law, Judith “Judy” Foster.

Those left to honor Stephen’s memory are his son, Jason Foster of O’Fallon, Missouri; his daughter, Jennifer (Sam) Wisdom of O’Fallon, Missouri; three grandchildren, Jonathan and Zachary Foster, and Corie Wisdom; great-grandson, Payton Wisdom; his brother, Michael (Dianne) Foster of Lake Wales, Florida; his sister, Lynn (Robert) Van Maaren of Newton; mother-in-law, Maxine Purvis of Grinnell; two sisters-in-law, Pam (Vernon) Gibson of Grinnell and Denise Sedlock of Grinnell; and brother-in-law, Charles Foster of Newton.
