Stephen A. Hedgecraft, 76, of Anderson, passed away on November 15, 2020, at Ascension St. Vincent’s Hospital from an extended illness. He was born June 17, 1944, to Edward and Patricia (Greve) Hedgecraft. He attended Anderson High School, Class of 1963. He served in the Army for two years and was a survivor of TET ’68 in Saigon.
Stephen was employed in the Rack Room for 28 years as a welder during his 40 years at Guide Lamp Division of General Motors. He loved being outside gardening and taking care of his lawn. He earned the nickname, “Yard-Man”, from the young children in the neighborhood. Jackson & Perkins appointed him to grow experimental roses. For years, he had showcased pink roses lining both sides of his driveway that passersby would stop to admire. During his midlife, he became health conscious and began walking an hour a day and that led him to become a runner. He became active in “Anderson Road Runners Club” for 25 years. He completed 29 Mini-Marathons and many 5K’s. He helped put on races for The Mound’s Run and The White River Run.
Stephen is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Nancy; daughter, April Hedgecraft of Westfield (fiance’, Mark Gregory); and grandchildren, Khloe Miller and Kaden Miller. Residing in Carlsbad, California is his step-son, Rich (Shilpa) Lewis; step-grandson, Omni Lewis; sister, Pam (Steve) Lackey; brother-in-law, Bill Collins; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Susan Collins, and Linda Kimbrell.
