Stephania Sagaty, 92, of Orange, formerly of South Hempstead, N.Y., passed away Dec. 8, 2010 in Milford Hospital. She was the wife of the late of Michael Sagaty. Mrs. Sagaty was born in Ukraine Feb. 24, 1918, but fled Ukraine during World War II with her husband, two children, her husband’s brother, Myron Sagaty and his wife. They spent five years in an Austrian refugee camp before coming to the United States in 1949. With a lot of hard work and resourcefulness, she and her husband assimilated into the American way of life while preserving their Ukrainian culture. She is survived by a daughter, Alexandria Palmer of Orange; five grandchildren, Kathrine Carangelo of Orange, Michael Palmer of Orange, James Palmer of Norwalk, Bryan Linick and Joanna Linick Williams, both of California; and four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Oksana Yamada of Reno, NV. She was better known as loving “Babcia” whose focus in life was caring for friends and family, all of whom she loved.
