     Stella Janice Brown Skelton of South Boston, Virginia, was gathered to her people in the presence of Jesus on November 9, 2022.

   She was born January 22, 1936, in West Point, Georgia, to Roy and Louise Brown and was predeceased by her husband, Schafer, and her oldest son, Mike. She is survived by her sons Dane and his wife Krista Skelton of South Boston, Virginia, their three daughters, Marynn (and Stephen) Dause of Charlottesville, Virginia, Emarie Skelton of Billings, Montana, and Mikeala Skelton, of Hickory, North Carolina, and her son Warren and his wife Marki Skelton, of Rabun Gap, Georgia. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Laura Skelton, granddaughter Angela Chambers, and great-granddaughter Alaura Dollar.

     Stella was married to Schafer Judson Skelton, Jr. from 1955 to 1976 and never remarried because she “never met a man to match him.” She was an administrative assistant in the DeKalb County School System in Georgia for 42 years and retired to South Boston in 2011. Her family called her “Dr. Granny” because she enjoyed reading medical texts and research. She also enjoyed reading and listening to novels and watching Law & Order.

     Stella served her Lord for many decades in the choir, in the kitchen, and for ten years as host to the women’s ministry of Faith Community Church in South Boston, Virginia. Known as “Momma Stella” by her beloved friends at FCC, Stella touched many people with her faith, compassion, wisdom, and generosity based on her strong relationship with Jesus Christ.
