On April 24, 2011, Stanley W. Carter, 94, died of natural causes in Arnold, MD. He was born on January 11, 1917 in Toledo, Ohio to the late H. Nathaniel and Florence Carter. A long time resident of Elvaton, MD, he served in the US Army Air Corps from 1940-1945, and was stationed primarily at Borinquen Airfield in Puerto Rico, as part of the defense of the Panama Canal. He left the Air Corps as a Sergeant in the Military Police, with an honorable discharge. After the war, he worked 33 years for Westinghouse, and was a long time member of the American Legion Post #276 in Severn, MD.
His steadfastness through life was exemplified in his devotion to friends and family, and in his service to his country. He always had a smile for everyone he met, and to the last, he was charming, outgoing, and loved to dance. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two wives, Cecilia and Anita Carter, and son, Stanley W. Carter, Jr. He is survived by five children, Calvin Carter and wife Marilyn of Arnold, Shirlee Reinke and husband Paul of Pasadena, Betty LaFlame and husband Harry of Sykesville, Jay Dittmar of Lansdowne, and Janice Truelove and husband John of Glen Burnie; seven grandchildren, Kate Peregoy and husband Joseph, Colin Carter, Chris Belge and husband Joe, Cheryl Allen and husband Matt, Kevin Agee and wife Jill, Missy Truelove, and Stacie LaFlame; and 10 great-grandchildren.
