Stan Maffey (Stanley Victor), 90, passed away peacefully at home on February 23, 2018. He was born in San Jose, California to parents Leslie H. Maffey and Annie (Swanson) Maffey. He had two younger sisters, Doreen and Marilyn. Stan’s mother died when he was 14 and five years later his father married Eva Freitas who had one daughter, Beverly. Stan spent his early childhood in San Jose, including summers in Capitola where his great love of the ocean first began, and his body-surfing skills were perfected. After grade school his family moved to Warm Springs (now Fremont) and he attended Washington Union High School where he was student body president, football and basketball captain, and more significantly, met his future wife, Shirley Ann Marriott. Following graduation in 1945, Stan enlisted in the Navy.
Stan worked for Equitable Life Insurance for five years prior to working over 30 years for Moore Business Forms where he became a very successful District Sales Manager. He loved his work but retired in 1987 at age 60 and “never looked back.” Stan and Shirley traveled extensively throughout the United States in their motorhome as well as numerous trips internationally (over two dozen). Favorite destinations were to the Fall Foliage (five times) and Hawaii (too many times to count!).

Stan was an avid sports buff as well as a tennis and golf enthusiast. As an exceptional tennis player, he won many tennis tournaments throughout his life in Idaho and California and played well into his 80s. He was a loyal San Francisco 49er football, and Giants baseball fan, a big Boise State sports follower, loved attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, and continued playing golf until a year ago.

Family was Stan’s greatest pride and joy and he was their biggest supporter. Friends always said he was a ‘class act.’ He was loved dearly and will be missed more than words can express. His passing has left a hole in all of our hearts. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley; his daughter, Laurie (Steve) of California; sons, David (Kay) of Eagle, and Mike (Heidi) of Boise; as well as nine grandchildren, Brian (Allison), Sarah (Andrew), Jason (Donna), Travis, Chad, Jenna (Sheridan), Sean, Justin (Jordan), Aaron; and nine great grandchildren, Wyatt, Luna, Rachel, Lincoln, Phoenix, Thatcher, Weston, Brinley, and Briar. He is also survived by his sister, Doreen (Wayne), sister-in-law, Virginia Marriott, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank St. Alphonsus Hospice team for their support and care these past months.
