Stanley (Stanislaw) Wielgos passed from this earth to heaven on Friday December 4th, 2015 at the age of 89. He is survived by Wanda, his beloved wife of 63 years and two children; Danusia (William) Prior of Colorado Springs, CO and Les (Michelle) Wielgos of St. Louis, MO. He is also survived by three grandchildren; Kasia (Alistair) Jewell of Rishton, England, Adam (Michelle) Gruca of Colorado Springs, CO and Margaret Gruca (Ibrahim Yasin) of Denver, CO and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister Nellie (Edward) Dzierozynski of Woodstock, IL and several nieces and nephews.
Stanley was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, moved with his family back to Poland shortly thereafter and immigrated to the United States at the age of eleven. Stanley was a mathematics teacher in the Chicago Public school system for twenty-seven years. He combined his talent for education and his love of being a Polish American by starting a Polish school in Chicago that offered instruction in the language and culture and enjoyed teaching about his heritage.
He retired to Scottsdale in 1987 and was a long time member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish in Phoenix where he sang in the choir and read at Mass.
Stanley loved to travel (particularly to Poland and Hawaii), was an avid stamp collector and stock market aficionado. He also enjoyed reading Polish literature and getting a good bargain.
He will be dearly missed by his family and friends and his presence is irreplaceable.
