Stanley Gordon Kimber passed away peacefully on Friday August 15, 2014 at the Chapel Hill Retirement Community in Canal Fulton, Ohio.
Stan was born December 13, 1933 in Akron, Ohio. He was one of 7 siblings born to Harold and Metta Kimber, who have preceded him in death.
Stan’s father Harold, was born in Manchester, England and was in the Royal Navy. He was docked in New York when he decided to “jump ship” and went AWOL from the British Forces. He changed his last name from Bell to Kimber to go undetected. Somehow he ended up in Akron with wife Metta from Pennsylvania. He lost his job, and was unable to get any assistance for his family because of his illegal status and in desperation, jumped to his death from the high level bridge. After this tragedy, Stan, his siblings and mother were able to get government assistance due to the nature of events.
Stan worked for the railroad for many years and loved the game of golf. He also worked as a caddy at the finer golf courses in Akron. Stan always dressed very fashionable and always wore really nice shoes. He mainly lived in the Cuyahoga Falls area and spent about 20 years living at Portage Trail Village. Stan served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958.
He leaves two children, Jason Kimber and Nisha Kirk. He is also survived by two siblings, Patricia Walker in Copley and Gerald Kimber in Cuyahoga Falls.
