Stanley (Stan) Leigh, of Parma, died Friday, November 11, 2011 at home at the age 81.
Stanley Donovan Leigh was born July 21, 1930 to Cecil Leigh and Lena Fretwell Leigh in Eugene, Oregon. In 1933 Stanley along with his father, mother and older sister, Bonita moved to the Parma area in Idaho. After about two years, his father was able to acquire that portion of the original homestead in Apple Valley that had been inherited by his mother, Eva Paul Leigh. Stan grew up there, attending grade school in Apple Valley and high school in Parma. During that time his younger sister, Beulah was born.
In 1949, Stan married Ella Mae Cox of Emmett, Idaho. To that union four children were born, Sandra (Andy) Marrical, Steven (Jan) Leigh, Sidney Leigh and Sherri (Curt) Garrett. He and Ella later divorced. Although these are the only children Stan actually fathered, in the years that followed he was father to many wonderful children. He was occasionally heard to say “I helped raise 15 kids”. Several of whom still call him Dad. In addition to all of these, there are many grandchildren and great grandchildren that he loves very much!
Stan loved to work and held too many different jobs to list here.
Although he always thought of Idaho as home, he lived in several other states, Florida, California, Nevada, Utah and Oregon with trips back to Idaho in between some. His last trip back to Idaho was in 1976 and he has lived here since then. Wherever he lived he was much happier if he had a garden spot where he could grow some veggies and some wild game nearby that he could hunt to help put food on the table.
In 1981 Stan married “His Angel” Jo Anne Akers Thornton of Parma. They enjoyed 27 wonderful years together before she passed away in 2008.
Stan is a child of God (read john 1:12-14) and is anxiously looking forward to the promise given in First Thessalonians 4:13-18, “The Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the Archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first; then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air; and so shall we ever be with the Lord!”.
