Mr. Stanley Dee “Stan” Smith died February 2, 2022 after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. A lifelong Newnan resident, Stan was born February 14, 1959 at Newnan Hospital. He was the son of Janet (Stone) Smith and the late J. Bert Smith and of Newnan.
Stan graduated from Newnan High School, Class of 1977. He married his high school sweetheart Marcia Wilson, and they celebrated 43 years of marriage last August. In 2021, Stan retired after 32 years with Yamaha Motor Manufacturing Company.
Stan’s passions were his family, friends, and faith, especially sharing his love of God through music. In the mid-1980’s, Stan and several friends joined together to form the gospel quartet The Georgians. They spent the next several years traveling the southeast and spreading the love of Christ through song. Stan has served as music minister for East Newnan Baptist Church, Bexton Road Baptist Church, and for the last 10 years at Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church Sharpsburg.
A beloved son, father and grandfather, Stan is survived by his mother Janet (Stone) Smith; wife Marcia (Wilson) Smith; daughter Deanne (Smith) Rosso and her husband, Brandon, of Athens, GA; son Joseph Andrew “Drew” Smith of Newnan; grandsons Blake Rosso, Brooks Rosso and Bradley Rosso; and brother Brian Smith of Newnan; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
