Stanford “Bernard” Jones, 58, formerly of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away on
Monday, October 21, 2019, in Inglewood, California.
Inglewood Mortuary Chapel, 1206 Centinela Avenue.
Bernard was born in Roanoke, Alabama to Lera Ann Jones and Lorenzo
Hutchinson (deceased) on December 25, 1960. He went to Hoke Smith
High School in Atlanta. When he graduated, he fulfilled one of his biggest
goals by joining the Army. He was an Armor (11B). He loved his job
because he got the opportunity to be on the front line of defense with his
tank. Bernard served honorably for 12 years. He received numerous awards
and medals. Then he migrated to California (another goal); where he has
lived for 20 years. During this tenure he earned an Associate Degree in
Welding and Process Technician from Los Angeles Trade-Technical
College. He worked as a Skilled Laborer for Laborers Union Local 300 for
the past 2 years. Bernard’s real passion/hobby was cooking. He enjoyed
feeding family and friends and never asked for anything in return.
Bernard is preceded in death by his Aunt Willie Mae Jones, earlier this year.
She raised him from a child and was his “Rock”. Also, his brother, Rodney.
Bernard is survived by his children, Shay Hopgood (Georgia), Stanley Jones
(Maryland), and Ebony Jones (Maryland); his brother, Richard, and sisters,
Dana, Sonia, and Tonia; and his mother, Lera Ann Jones. He also had 2
grandchildren, Amaya and Aryah. He had many nieces, nephews, and
cousins.
Bernard will truly be missed by his family and friends. He had a giving
heart and will never be forgotten.
