Sister Mary Ellen Descourouez, OLVM, 86, died on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Saint Anne Community at Victory Noll, Huntington, Indiana.
Sister Mary Ellen was born in Geneva, Illinois, on January 21, 1935, to John Descourouez and Helen (Heisten) Descourouez.
Her parents and two brothers, Robert and William Descourouez all precede sister in death. Surviving Sister Mary Ellen is several nieces and nephews and her Victory Noll Sisters, with whom she shared life and community for 68 years.
Sister Mary Ellen entered the Congregation of Our Lady of Victory Missionary Sisters on January 6, 1953, and made her first vows on August 5, 1955. She served in the states of Colorado, California, Florida, Texas, and Illinois. She also served Buena Vista and Cochabamba, Bolivia. Sr. Mary Ellen served the congregation in formation ministry and in the ministry of Leadership. She was one of the founding members of the “Julia Center” in Chicago, Illinois. She returned to Victory Noll in 2009 and one of her volunteer ministries was a weekly reflection on the Gospel in both English and Spanish for the OLVM website.
