On June 11, 2017, Spero John Pappafotis, 92, of Glen Burnie, passed away at Sunrise Assisted Living in Severna Park. Spero was born on June 30, 1924, in Washington, DC, to the late Anna and John Pappafotis. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army as a Tech 5 during World War II, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. Spero studied abroad at The Sorbonne in Paris and then he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from George Washington University. He worked as the Chief of Foreign Claims at Social Security Administration and was a member of The Greek Orthodox Church, American Legion Post 40, and the Elks Lodge. Spero enjoyed all sports, especially lacrosse, and was a ballroom dance instructor.
Spero was predeceased by his devoted wife of 58 years, Ilene M. Pappafotis, his beloved daughter, Christina A. Pappafotis, and his siblings, Michael and Mary Pappafotis. He is survived by his loving sons, Michael S. Pappafotis, John S. Pappafotis, George S. Pappafotis, and James S. Pappafotis; seven cherished grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and his dear siblings, Despina Moreland, George J. Pappafotis, and Toby Kinnehan.
