Spencer Lafayette Glasgow Sr., 77, of Madison, AL passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2020. Mr. Glasgow is preceded in death by his parents, Spencer Leon and Lurlie Glasgow. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Glasgow, son Spencer (Tina), son Darryl, son Tim (Andrea), daughter Connie Slone (Sean), grandson Jeremy, grandson Brandon Sarnowski (Lisa), granddaughter Caitlin Seahorn (Jordan), grandson Justin, grandson Cameron, granddaughter Lauren, grandson Austin, granddaughter Kalleeann, granddaughter Mia, great granddaughter Avery Seahorn, great grandson Layton Seahorn. He will also be missed by his fur-child, Sassy, and his favorite granddog, Bailey.
Mr. Glasgow was a graduate of Russellville High School and the University of Alabama. He was employed by NASA as a mathematical engineer assigned to the Marshall Space Flight Center. During his 40 year career, he contributed to many of the shuttle payload programs and missions before retiring in 2005.
Over the years, Mr. Glasgow was active in sports. He enjoyed playing basketball and softball with the NASA rec leagues. He was also a basketball referee for local high schools. His calls were not always well received, but he was always a fair official and well versed in the game. Mr. Glasgow had a kindly sense of fair play and sportsmanship regarding athletics but was known by his friends as a no holds barred poker player.
Mr. Glasgow also gained an interest and appreciation of antiques and collectibles that was initially sparked by vintage Alabama clay pottery. This interest in finding treasures led him to become both a state-licensed auctioneer and certified appraiser. During this process, he acquired a deep and vast knowledge of many types of collectibles. He enjoyed meeting people at auctions, garage sales, estate sales and swapping “junk” stories with them.
