Sophie (Lukaszewski) Matlega, 87, of New Britain, wife of Jan Matlega passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2012 with her loving husband of 57 years by her side. She was born in Winchester, NH, daughter of the late Myron and Cecelia (Gralicki) Lukaszewski; she was a longtime New Britain resident. Sophie was a member of Holy Cross Church and listened faithfully to the daily Mass on television. Sophie was always on the dance floor when they played the Polka and she loved to listen to Country Music. They traveled the United States, Canada and Mexico; one of her favorite memories was their trip to Nashville. Sophie is survived her husband Jan Matlega; her sister Marion Kovaleski of Pequabuck; her sisters-in-law Betty, Mildred and Irene Lukaszewski; a dear friend Sheila Dubois and her sons Anthony and Michael and her nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Stephen, Zygmunt, Victor and her sister Helena Lukaszewski. The family would like to thank the staff at the Walnut Hill Care Center for their loving care and support.
