Joyce Sophia Miles Rush

Joyce finally came to her stop after 91 years. Drafted to serve as a conductress on a double-decker bus in London, England during World War II, she met and married handsome US Army Air Corp Pilot, Lt. Frank Rush. As a war bride she traveled to America aboard The Queen Mary (her first and last cruise, “thank you very much”) and arrived in New York on March 17, 1946.

At home in Niles, Illinois Joyce loved sewing, gardening and bicycling with her dear friend Millie Slussar. She had two daughters Janice and Maureen and taught them many valuable things: how to make a proper cup of tea, the correct way to stir and most importantly how to flirt. Joyce had a wink and a smile for everyone. She was beautiful and we loved her.

Joyce is survived by her sister Lena Titmus of London, England; two daughters, Jan (Jack) Sguardo of Fountain Hills, Arizona and Maureen (Marc) Brickman of Aiken, South Carolina; four fabulous grandchildren Jill Herzog, Jason Sguardo, Jordan Block and Dustin Brickman; three wonderful great-grandchildren Hudson and Lucy Herzog and Jaxon Sguardo.

In keeping with her wishes she will be “double bagged and put out at the curb.
