Sonja M. Capra, age 81, died at her home in Aurora, Colorado on Thursday, May 30th, 2019. The cause was cancer.
She was born on May 7th, 1938 in Darlington, SC where she spent her formative years. She attended Winthrop College in Rock Hill, SC and then moved to Charleston, SC with her then husband, Ramsey Mellette Jr. where he attended medical school and she taught grade school. They settled in Aurora, Colorado where she raised her two children; Ramsey Mellette III and Bradford Heyward Mellette. Sonja and Ramsey Jr. were divorced in 1990 and she married Alan A. Capra in 1995. They spent many years together in Westminster, CO before recently moving back to Aurora in 2017. From the time they met in 1993 until 2019, they created and shared many wonderful memories together.
Sonja’s son Brad died in an auto accident at age 25 in March, 1999. Sonja’s survivors include Alan A. Capra, Ramsey Mellette III, Judy Yarborough, Jim Lyles, Jenny Capra, Jimmy Capra, Ramsey Mellette Jr., Betty Mellette, and Beth Erkelens. Sonja is survived by six grandchildren: Hayden and Mica Hart, Wren and Lucy Capra, and Jonah and Maisie Mellette.
