Sonia Biruta Skricki, age 87 of Baltimore formally of Norwood, MA died, March 23, 2023 in Baltimore after a long illness. Born March 28, 1935, she was the daughter of Adam and Ida Orlowski.
Sonia “Betty” was a beautiful soul who saw the good in everything and everyone. She was the only child of parents who immigrated from Lithuania at the end of World War I. She got an undergraduate degree in chemistry from Boston University and a master’s degree in biochemistry from MIT, at a time when there were almost no women at MIT. She worked at the Beth Israel eye research institute, then left the workforce to raise three children. She later worked at Shuster Labs and Eastman Kodak. She was a volunteer with the League of Women Voters and an active member of the Lithuanian community in Boston and Rhode Island.
Sonia is survived by her children, Carol Skricki and spouse Anastasia Curwood of Versailles, KY, Edward Skricki of Medford, MA, Irene Skricki and husband Stephen Nishiura of Baltimore, MD and grandchildren, Alexander and Meredith Nishiura of Baltimore.
Sonia was predeceased by her husband John William Skricki in 2003.
