Smedley Orland Dennis was born July 29, 1931 to Ina Townsend and Henry L. Dennis in Manchester, Jamaica, BWI.

He had three brothers, two now deceased, Trevor Dennis, and Cranston Dennis.

He is survived by one sister Barbara Richards (Dr. Stanley Richards) and brother Henry L. Dennis. Four nephews Gregory and Bruce (Maya), Antar and Chad (Thea) and two nieces, Denise Costa (Ralfe), Marilyn (Jonathan Jackson).

In addition, Smedley is survived by his wife Annette Dennis, 5 children Orland, Donna, Vernon (Lorie), Darlene and Sean. Nine grandchildren, Brandi Hester-Harrell, Brandon Hester-Harrell, Jalen Dennis, Jahmiece Dennis, Najzma Williams, Zariah Dennis, Marlee Dennis, Nylah Williams & Nigel Williams. Six great grands, Zaiyah Johnson, Jazaara Johnson, Neveah Hester-Harrell, Nehemiah Hester-Harrell, Raelynn DeLoach, Olivia Dennis.

Smedley moved to the United States around the age of eleven, finished grade school and high school. Smedley joined the United States Air Force from November 1951 to January 1955, with decorations for Korean Service, Medal for National Defense, U.N. Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Honorable discharge.

Smedley was a member of Christian Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. John S. Walker Pastor. He worked as an alcoholic supervising counselor for A.B.C. in Rochester, NY. Smedley had throat surgery in 1988 but continued his work at A.B.C. until he retired in 2003. After retirement, Smedley spent most of his days working in his garden, building wood projects, taking early morning trips to BJ’s and loving the family that surrounded him
