Sister Mary Joanna Nolan, OSB, a member of the Benedictines of Jesus Crucified of the Monastery of the Glorious Cross, 61 Burban Dr., Branford, CT died August 16, 2008 in CT Hospice. She was born in Hawarden, Iowa a daughter of the late Robert H. and Joanna E. Gaffney Nolan. Before entering the order she was a registered nurse and also taught children on a reservation in South Dakota. Sister was a member of Regina Mundi Priory in Devon, PA and St. Paul’s Priory in Newport, RI before moving to Branford. She was the sister of Helen V. Kelehan of Des Moines, IA, Sister Michael Marie Nolan, DC, of Shoreline, WA, and John E. Nolan of Leawood, KS. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
