Sister Mary Ann Aman, CHM, 82, died September 7, 2021, at Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston, IA. Mary Ann Aman was born July 30, 1939, in Kansas City, KS, to Fred Kenneth and Christine Ann (Koncher) Aman. She entered the Congregation of the Humility of Mary in 1957 and professed vows in 1960.

Sister Mary Ann received an AS in Elementary Education from Ottumwa Heights College in 1960, and completed a BA in the same field at Marycrest College in 1972. While teaching and doing parish ministry at Sacred Heart parish in the Diocese of Tyler, TX, she earned a certificate in Professional Ministries: Deacon, in 2001.

S. Mary Ann’s ministry of education spanned six decades, beginning in 1959 at St. Patrick’s School in Ottumwa, IA, and ending as St. Joseph Parish Religious Education Director in State Center, IA, in 2011. In between, she served as an elementary school teacher and librarian in Ottumwa, Centerville, Davenport, Bettendorf, and Albia in the Diocese of Davenport. At St. Theresa in the Diocese of Des Moines, she also began work as a Religious Education Coordinator.

In 1978, she left Iowa and the classroom, and went to the Archdiocese of Omaha, NE. In Omaha, her ministry in religious education advanced from Library Media Coordinator, to Media Consultant, and then to Media Director. She was a founding member of a national religious media organization. She then went to Nacogdoches, in the Diocese of Tyler, TX, where she served Sacred Heart parish and school as a teacher of ministry and religious education from 1991 to 2000. She also assisted in care for her mother there. She returned to Iowa, to the Diocese of Dubuque, first as a Religious Education teacher at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Ames and then at St. Joseph Parish in State Center.

S. Mary Ann is survived by her sister, Kathy Scott; her nieces, Mary (Curtis) Timmons and Margaret (Terry) Wilson, and her nephews, Mike (Betty) Scott and Mitchell Scott. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother-in-law, Paul Scott; her nephew, Mark Francis Scott, and her great-niece Lauren Timmons.
