SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS – Sister Jacquelyn Hoffman died on Jan. 25, 2021, in Mother Theodore Hall, St. Mary-of-the-Woods. She was born on Feb. 3, 1931 in Fort Wayne, IN, to Al J. and Mildred L. Middleton Hoffman and was baptized Jacquelyn Suzanna.
Sister Jackie, as she was known to all, entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Providence on Feb. 2, 1950 and was given the name Sister Theodata. She professed Final Vows Aug. 15, 1957. She earned a bachelor’s degree from St.
Of her 71 years as a Sister of Providence, she ministered as music teacher for 50 years in schools in Indiana, Illinois, and Missouri. In 2004, she returned to the Motherhouse.
Sister Jackie was a gracious woman who met others with gentleness and compassion. She exhibited a love of beauty in many ways. Her appearance, her way of speaking, her making music, all had an artfulness, a simple elegance about them.
Sister Jackie is survived by a sister, Patricia Tummey of Randolph, NJ; and nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by two brothers, Don and Steve Hoffman.
