Silva Mae (Madkins) Griffin, resident of McLeansville, North Carolina, died peacefully on August 17, 2024. She was 83 years old. Silva was the loving daughter of Jesse Solomon and Jessie Lee (Oliver) Madkins. Her family included an adored sister Eva Sue. She grew up in Henderson, Texas and attended Misner Elementary School. She graduated from Henderson Colored High School, renamed Hill High School where she graduated at the top her class and gave the commencement speech. Silva attended Texas College. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in music with a major in voice. Also, she received a teaching certification for elementary school education. Her thirty-year teaching career included assignments in her hometown of Henderson, Great Britain, Houston, Dallas, and Manassas (Virginia). Silva was a tireless teacher. Retirement didn’t stop her. She became an educational consultant and worked with the elementary teaching staff of the Colonial Beach School System. Silva’s early Christian education and training kept her grounded throughout her life. Wherever located, she joined the church and participated in their activities and programs. She worked tirelessly and energetically. Silva is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She gave her efforts and support to the organizational mission to the community. Silva enjoyed her life and lived it well. Silva is preceded in her passing by her parents Jesse Solomon and Jessie Lee Madkins, and son Hudson W. Griffin, III. Those who will remember her are her husband of 60 years Hudson W. Griffin Jr., daughter Nicole Griffin, sister Eva Sue Saddler, nieces Mia Saddler and Robin Clemons, grandnieces Morgan and Taylor Clemons, daughter-in-law Lori Griffin and a host of relatives and friends.
