Sidney B. Cushman Jr, 92, was called home on Sunday, November 17th to join his parents, Sidney B. Cushman Sr and Elsie (Tracy) Cushman, and his youngest son, Dr. Kent E. Cushman. A lifelong resident of Manchester, Sidney retired from the Town, but he was first and foremost a farmer. He worked on his family’s Parker St. farm all his life and was very well known for his tender, sweet corn. After graduating from Manchester High School, he joined the Army and was an M.P. during the Korean conflict. He came home to his beloved farm and, while enjoying some rare spare time ice skating in Center Springs Park, met his lifelong sweetheart and wife of 68 years, Priscilla (Beckwith) Cushman. Farm life didn’t cover the bills though, so he took on odd jobs in engineering, insurance, and finally with the Manchester Parks & Rec department, all the while taking care of his parents and tending to the farm. Sidney was a member of the Manchester Grange and Army & Navy Club. Besides his wife, Sidney leaves 2 children, Jan (Cadett) Strickland and her husband, Tom, and Scott Cushman and his wife Dawn (Smith) Cushman. He will also be missed by his 3 grandchildren, Rachel Musselman (Matt), Joel Cadett (Whitney) and Logan Cushman, and one great-grandchild, Milly, with another 2 on the way.
