Obituary

TURBOTVILLE — Sidney A. St. Clair, 84, of Susquehanna Trail, Turbotville, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at Evangelical Hospital, Lewisburg.

Born January 17, 1924 near Pottsgrove, he was the son of the late John W. and Blanch Irene (Plotts) St.Clair. After his fathers death while Sidney was still very young, his mother remarried and Sidney grew up with a step-father, Earl C. Keiser, whom he called his dad.

On March 22, 1946 he married the former Susie DeWald and they have celebrated 62 years of marriage.

Sid worked at the former Philco Corp., Watsontown for over 30 years. After Philco closed, he worked part-time at McDonalds in the Lycoming Mall.

A long-time former resident of McEwensville, he had been a charter member of the former McEwensville Fire Company. A dedicated fireman, he served as the Fire Chief and with the Fire Police.

He was a veteran of WWII, serving the Asian/Pacific Theatre. He served with the 17th Infantry, Reg.3, Bn 7 as a machine gunner and later was truckmaster and the General’s Chauffeur. He was wounded twice and recieved a Purple Heart and four bronze stars.

He was a member of the American Legion, Watsontown, the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #171, Milton and a charter member of the Muffly-Huff Post 8206, VFW, Turbotville.

Sid loved to work and for many years painted house and barn roofs and did other handyman work in addition to his full-time job. He enjoyed his garden and earlier in life liked to hunt.

Surviving besides his wife are a foster daughter, Peggy Fryling, Danville; a brother, Allen L. St.Clair, Lewisburg: a half-brother, Harold Keiser, Watsontown; a half-sister Harriet Getz, Hughesville; two step-brothers, Glenn Keiser, Hughesville and Meredith “Pete” Keiser, Turbotville and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sons: Sidney Keith St. Clair on July 13, 1971 and Robert Alla St.Clair on Oct. 15, 1972; a brother John St. Clair; two half brothers: Cleon and Clarence Keiser; a half sister, Ruth McMichael; two step-brothers, Earl B. and Hoyt Keiser and two step-sisters, Mildred Shade and Cleo Benard.

A graveside service will be held Saturday at 10:00 AM a the Presbyterian Cemetery, McEwensville with Pastor Amelia Shivers of St. Johns United Church of Christ, McEwensville, officiating. Friends are invited to call Brooks Funeral Home, 207 Broadway Street, Turbotville from 6 to 9 PM Friday. The family suggests contributions in Sid’s memory be made to the Muffly Huff VFW Post 8206, PO Box 31, Turbotville, PA 17772.
