It is with great sadness we share the news of our beautiful Mother’s passing on March 3, 2013 with all three children by her side. Shirley Alice Sust was born in Los Angeles, CA on December 16, 1947 to John and Mary Alice Winder. Shirley grew up in Culver City where she attended school and made many friends she continued to stay in contact with. She loved the lunches with the girls.

Our family moved to Oxnard in 1971. Shirley was a homemaker for several years serving as a Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout Leader, room mother, planning block parties, and being a taxi and cheerleader for three children and their friends going three different ways. Shirley worked for the City of Oxnard and made treasured friends before she retired.

She was especially excited and proud of her zip lining adventure which included swimming through water and caves just outside of Playa del Carmen. She was honored to be asked to speak at a Relay for Life event in Grand Junction, CO in October 2010. She felt accomplished she had publicly spoken and shared her own story with other cancer survivors and supporters. Shirley was an excellent cook and baker and especially loved sharing this art with her grandchildren. Her grandchildren were the stars in her life. Whether they were at the beach, painting rocks, reading, cuddling, giggling, baking, shopping, watching movies, having lunch, learning about dorm rooms, attending all of the school performances and special events, her face beamed and her eyes twinkled when she caught sight of her grandchildren.

They felt her love and excitement and will keep her alive in their hearts for the rest of their lives. We remember our Mother and Grandma having a warm heart, loving her family and friends and making all of us feel special, having an amazing smile and laugh, sharing hugs, encouraging us, and living life. We hope you will keep the joy she shared with you alive in your hearts and speak of her often.

Shirley is survived by her children Maria Sust Bombara, Michael Sust, and Paul Sust, grandchildren Christopher and Stephen Bombara, Stephanie and Emily Sust, and Helena, Ada and Carlo Sucero, sister Patricia Winder, Friend Mario Manfredonia, and treasured nieces, nephew, cousins and friends. We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to Kathy Cooper who lovingly and patiently became her caregiver for the last two months when she unexpectedly was diagnosed with cancer again.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents.
