Shirley Stoker Clark
June 29, 1925 – May 24, 2016

Shirley Stoker Clark, 90 years old, passed away in Clearfield, Utah, Tuesday, May 24, 2016, as a result of congestive heart failure. She was born in Roy, Utah, on June 29, 1925, to Herman Deloss and Minnie Ora Child Stoker.

Shirley grew up in the Burley, Idaho, area, where she helped on the family farm and took care of her brothers and sisters. She graduated from Burley High School, where she met James LeRoy “Mike” Clark. After attending Weber State Academy nursing school, she married Mike in the Idaho Falls Temple on September 10, 1946. They lived in Montpelier, Twin Falls, Buhl, and Boise, Idaho; Woods Cross, Roy, and Layton, Utah.

Both redheads, Shirley and Mike raised seven redheaded children: Michelene (Whitney-deceased) White of Canyon County, CA; Gregory (Trish) of Bloomfield, NM; Catherine (Scott) Pratt of Parker, CO; Sherma (Richard-deceased) Donnelly of Clearfield, UT; Daniel (Stephanie) of Kaysville, UT; Kristin (Kurt) Price of Layton, UT; and Jonathan (Tiffanie) of Milledgeville, GA. They have also been blessed with 21 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Shirley’s greatest enjoyment in life was taking care of babies and children. She was a foster mother to 68 infants and as a member of the LDS Church taught many, many children in Primary and Sunday School. She was a visiting teacher all her married years. She loved to sew and put miles and miles of stitches on her Bernina sewing machine. She made all of her children’s clothes as well as many wedding dresses, elaborate blessing outfits with blankets, layette sets that she donated to children’s organizations, and flannel receiving blankets for babies born in her neighborhood as well as LDS wards.

She also was a member of the Utah Daughters of Pioneers and attended meetings from the time she was married until just a few years before her death. She recently received an award from the DUP for being the oldest member in her camp. She was a member of 4-H in her young years and later became a 4-H leader, teaching neighborhood children, as well as her own, cooking, baking, and sewing skills. She loved to garden and bottle the produce and wanted to do things her way all her life.

She is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as well as sister Ora Whittier, brothers Lynn (Ruth) Stoker, and Robert (Sharen) Stoker, and sisters-in-law Delores Stoker and Jean Stoker.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; Deloss Stoker, Lloyd Stoker, and wife Betty, Vaughn Stoker, Carol Satchwell and husband Burton, and brother-in-law Homer Whittier.

Shirley will be dearly missed by all!
