Shirley C. Sonleiter, 91, of Orange, peacefully passed away on July 1, 2014. Born on June 27, 1923 in Syracuse, New York, she was the daughter of the late Emily I. and George C. Cooke and wife of the late Paul H. Sonleiter. She graduated from Hillhouse HIgh School in 1942. A dedicated mother and homemaker, she loved cooking, listening to oldies music, and travel. Most of all, though, from her childhood on, she committed herself to caring for animals. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Steven P. Sonleiter and Angela K. Frusciante of Orange, her sister, Beverly Sanford of Melbourne, Florida, as well as a niece and two nephews and their families and, of course, five rescue cats and one dog.
