Shirley Rose McNeal, “Waabishkizi” meaning “White Lady”, 68, of Red Lake Minnesota journeyed to the spirit world on Wednesday, September 11th, 2019 from her home. She was born May 8th, 1951 in Red Lake, MN, the daughter of Ina Mae (Cook) and Herbert McNeal.
Shirley attended school in Minneapolis and graduated from North High in 1969. She later moved back to Red Lake and was employed at the area Bemidji BIA and later for the Red Lake Indian Action Program. Most recently, Shirley worked at New Beginnings; where she was still a part time employee.
She was a very caring person, who help anyone with whatever she could, whenever she could. Shirley will be missed greatly by everyone. She enjoyed being with family, especially her nieces and nephews, whom she loved so much. Shirley enjoyed teasing people and loved to tell people off. She also enjoyed going to the casino, taking rides wherever and just being “loveable Shirley.”
Those she joins are her mom and dad, Herbert and Ina Mae McNeal; nephew, Mikey; grandparents, Teddi and Ida Cook and Leon and Jane McNeal; great nephew, Dominic Norris; uncles, Hank, Billy and Donald Cook, Donald, Dennis, Jimmy and Bobby McNeal; aunts, Vi Donnell, Amelia Carson, Roberta Crowe, Barbara Cook, Delphine Hoy and Darlene Huggett; cousins, Mushy Spears, Diane Cook, Carla Brun, Joey Pelchat, Darren Cook, Donnie and Lisa Cook, Cheryl Huggett and Kathleen Rodriguez.
She leaves behind her sisters, Janice (Toady) Thunder and Karen (Eli) Ramirez; brothers, Harlan, Bill, Bobby and Ron McNeal and Don (Michelle) Langer; nephews, Robert and Joey McNeal, whom she helped raise, Zach McNeal, whom she was caring for along with her nieces Amber and Diane McNeal; other nephews, Ron and Randy Thunder and Ben Langer; nieces, Kelly Thunder, Laura Dorn, Sarah Spande, and Kauri McNeal; uncle, Fabian Cook; aunts, Mary Ellen (Cook) Stillday, Elaine Blanchard and Sammi Jo Braddock; her fur babies, Daisy Mae and her black beauty Jake.
