“In Loving Memory”

This is the story of Shirley Roberta Siler (Moffitt) who entered into

eternal rest with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 12, 2018

at the age of 83. Roberta, as affectionately called by those who knew

and loved her, was dainty with a gentle smile and spirit. Her tone

was soft spoken, unless of course you made her mad, displaying a

quiet strength. She was a loyal, devoted and loving wife and mother.

Roberta’s story began on August 26, 1934 as the youngest of ten

children born to Thomas and Almedia Moffitt. She was born and

grew up in Siler City, North Carolina where she met her husband,

Edward “Tump” Herman Siler, Sr. Tump and Roberta recognized her

beauty and decided she was going to be his girlfriend. They were

married on December 12, 1955 in Rockville, Maryland.

Roberta was the mother of two children, Deborah “Debbie” Ann

Siler and Edward “Eddie” Herman Siler, II (Tracy). Due to her love

for shopping, during Debbie’s youth, they would go downtown to

shop almost every Saturday. Roberta was dedicated to her children,

always answering the call for help.

Roberta graduated from Chatham County Training School in Siler

City and in the words of her husband, was “very smart in school”.

After 30 years of dedicated service as a federal civil servant, she

retired from the Department of Transportation in Washington, D.C.

She was a sharp dresser known for being impeccably put together

and accessorized when going to work. Following both of their retirements,

Tump and Roberta moved back to Siler City in 2001. They

refurbished and settled into what was her mother’s home. This was

her home until her passing.

Roberta accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was a

longtime member of First Missionary Baptist Church Church in Siler City

and served as a pianist for the church. Until her health declined, she

favorite song was “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”, the knowledge

of which sustained her until the end.

Roberta leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 62 years and

children along with a brother-in-law, Bobby F. Siler (Marian) and

numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by

her parents; nine siblings, Armitchell Manning, Ezekiel Moffitt,

Lawrence Moffitt, Donnie Moffitt and Samuel “Kooky” Moffitt; a sister-in-law,

Doris Marsh and brother-in-law, Bishop Billy J. Siler (Marie).

Proverbs 31:10-18

King James Version (KJV)

Who can find a virtuous woman?

For her price is far above rubies.

The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her,

so that he shall have no need of spoil.

She will do him good

and not evil all days of her life.

She seeketh wool, and flax,

and worketh willingly with her hands.

She is like merchants’ ships;

she bringeth her food from afar.

She riseth also while it is yet night

and giveth meat to her household,

and a portion to her maidens.

She considereth a field,

and buyeth it;

with the fruit of her hands

she planteth a vineyard.

She girdeth her loins with strength,

and strentheneth her arms.

She perceiveth that her merchandise is good;

her candle goeth not out by night.
