Shirley was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 9, 1945 to Sterling and Geraldine Phillips. As a child her family moved to Hermosa Beach where she grew up on the beaches of California. She was a girl scout, a 1962 graduate of Mira Costa High School, and once spent an adventuresome summer living alongside Ozzie and Harriett. In 1968, Shirley met the love of her life on a blind date, Samuel Archuleta. She promptly married him, and spent the rest of her days beside him. She once said all she had to do was look at her daughter and son to see that they were the best things she’d ever done. Shirley filled her home with warm devotion, and raised her family on strong values and comfort food. She was an avid reader of thousands of novels, cherished by her adoring grandchildren, and loved a good whiskey and coca cola. Shirley died peacefully at home on November 13, 2013 surrounded by her husband, daughter, son, brother, and sister-in-law. In accordance with Shirley’s wishes, her ashes were inurned without ceremony or memorial. She was a special gift on this earth, and her 68 years of light will forever be celebrated by her loving family and friends.
