Shirley M. Underwood, 74, of Elkhart, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2019, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 12, 1944 in Curtisville, IN to the late Thomas L. and Mary Ellen (Phillips) Isbell.
She is survived by her son, Larry Steven Underwood; daughter, Terri Underwood; four sisters, Louise (George) Wilson, Peggy (Tom) Arndt, Lula Lee, and Phillis (Douglas) Applegate, brother, Edward (Nancy) Isbell; and sister-in-law, Shelby Isbell.
She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Bailey, Stephanie, Sarah, Carl Jr., Alex, Anna, Steven, and Joanna and eight great grandchildren. She is proceeded by her daughter, Marie Underwood; four sisters, Becky, Mary “Virginia”, Pearl, and Betty Isbell; and five brothers, Myrel, Rubin, Charles, Alvin, and Alvis Isbell.
Shirley was a fun and independent woman. She owned a housekeeping business for several years and was the owner of The Bee 3 bar on Beardsley Street. She also worked briefly as a book keeper.
Shirley loved her beer and enjoyed snowmobiling, boating, and was an avid swimmer. Gambling and playing the slots was her specialty and she often came out a winner. She will be missed greatly by her family and many friends.
