Shirley Lee Gerard, devoted wife of the late Claude Gerard, died on March 16, 2021 after a courageous struggle with breast cancer. She was 83. Born in New York, New York, she was the daughter of William C. Lee and Lucretia Farley. Both of her parents were small business owners. Shirley’s mother brought her to Baltimore as a child, where she spent the rest of her life. Shirley’s career included teaching school, developing a direct mail business, and running an advertising agency which had federal contracts in the area of recruitment. Shirley taught in both Baltimore City and Anne Arundel County schools. Shirley and her husband were partners in both business and life. Traveling and celebrating life with their family and friends was a vital part of their lives together. Shirley is survived by her sister Elaine Burdette and her husband, William; and her nieces and nephews Kathleen and David Shields, Cristine and Rod Largoza, MaryAnne and Maurice Byan, Margaret Dee, Ken F. and LuAnne Gerard, Don Gerard; and her stepchildren, Helen Gerard and Marie Epstein.
