Shirley Joan Hathaway, 84, of Sedalia, Colorado passed away on Friday, December 20, 2019. Her life began in Waukesha, Wisconsin, daughter to William and Louise Schessler. She obtained an Associate’s degree in nursing from Milwaukee County General and began her nursing career at Waukesha Memorial Hospital.
In 1961, she married Gilbert Hathaway II and had 5 children over the next 10 years. They moved to Oconomowoc, Wisconsin in 1967 and she worked as the head nurse in the emergency room for many years.
In 1990, she and her husband relocated to Tomahawk, Wisconsin where they lived in the north woods for 20 years. After her husband retired, they relocated to the mountains near the Pike National Forest in Sedalia, Colorado.
In her spare time, she loved to knit, do crossword puzzles and travel. Later in life, dementia took her mind and she struggled to remember names of those close to her. She did love to gaze out the windows at the tall pine trees, the beautiful blue sky and watch the hummingbirds every morning.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, William and Louise Schessler (Houser) of Waukesha, WI. She is survived by her husband, Gilbert II, her brother, Ralph Schessler of Rhinelander, WI, her children, Gilbert III (Nicole) of Kihei, HI, David (Christie) of San Antonio, TX, Ann Adams (George) of Sedalia, CO, Thane of Lakeville, MN, Steve (Becky) of Sedalia, CO, and 14 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and her dog, Coco.
