Shirley Jean (Meas) Thomas was born April 12, 1938 in Alamosa, Colorado. She passed June 23, 2017.
She met “Pop”, William Paul Thomas, in 1977 and they were married in August of 1978. He was the love of her life. They remained best friends until the day of his passing in August of 2014.
She was a hard working girl all of her life, chopping wood and working in fields. She loved her children, gardening, fishing, canning, making candy, and cooking… and man, could she bake! She loved horses, children, nature books (she was so smart!), and had love for all living things. In her later days she discovered “Turner Classic Movies”. She loved watching and talking about them, and loved “Monster Madness Night” when she would watch all night long.
She taught love and forgiveness; “hate” was never in her vocabulary. Her laughter and humor could light up a room. Although her little body could not do the things we take for granted, it never stopped her positive attitude about life.
She is survived by her son, Thomas Ortega; her daughter, Cecilia West; fourteen grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, April Dawn (Ortega) Twining-Schiner in 2000.
“Look what you started, Mom.”
