Shirley A. Jansen, nee Vogel, 79, of Belleville, IL, entered into eternal peace April 28th, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was born on July 31st, 1934, the youngest of five children born to John & Florence Vogel, nee Troop in Beverly, MA. She graduated Massachusetts State Teachers College at Bridgewater with a Bachelor of Science in Education and went on to Columbia University in New York and Missouri State University earning a Master’s Degree in Education and Library Science.
She worked as a Librarian for the New York Public Library, the St. Louis University Medical Library, and the Lewis and Clark Library System. She developed a love of books that was carried into a tradition of an annual book trip with her grandchildren, where she was known to buy them each and every book they would be interested in reading for the year. Shirley enjoyed reading, collecting and trading books of all kinds, along with spending time with her family. She will be truly missed by her friends at St. Paul’s Independent Living Facility and her family. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Edward T. Jansen; siblings, Robert, Florence “Sis”, Evelyn, Donald, and Alice; and dear in-laws Arthur “Bud” Jansen and Ida Jansen.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia L. & Dan Boatman of Shiloh, IL; sons, Michael E. & Angela Jansen of O’Fallon, IL, and Brian A. Jansen of O’Fallon, IL; grandchildren, Alexa Boatman, Brooke Boatman, Colleen Rickabaugh, Clarissa Rickabaugh, Page Jansen, and Gavin Jansen; and her dear friend, Cassie Jansen.
