She was born to James Franklin and Inez May Babbitt Harris on July 2, 1930 in Burley, Idaho. The family moved to Oakley, Idaho where she attended school. She married Emerd James on June 1, 1946. They made their home in Burley where they shared 70 anniversaries. Shirley worked at Woolworths, the Burley Inn and Hansen Mortuary at various times while rearing a family. She was always the epitome of grace and elegance.
