Shirley J. (Reitsma) Stone, age 95, died peacefully surrounded by family on October 13, 2021. Shirley was one of eight children of the late William P. Reitsma Sr. and Florence (Carr) Reitsma. She grew up in Hyde Park and graduated from Hyde Park High School in 1945. Beloved wife of the late Walter V. Stone Sr. for 64 years, they were high school sweethearts who married after his return from serving in World War II. Loving mother to her three children Diane, Janice, and Walter Jr., she was devoted to her family and raised them with love in Roslindale before moving to Plymouth in 1982.Shirley worked in Boston for many years in the insurance industry as a bookkeeper. She enjoyed ice skating, line dancing, going to yard sales, and spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and siblings. She was an avid lifelong skier who skied well into her 70’s and her love of the sport became the inspiration for a new generation of skiers to follow. Always happy, thoughtful, loving, thankful, and incredibly sweet, she was a good friend, a great sister, and a dearly cherished mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.Shirley was preceded in death by her late husband Walter V. Stone Sr. She is survived by her children Diane King of Plymouth, Janice Pitney and her husband Steve of Plymouth, and Walter Stone Jr. of Sharon. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Genevieve Stone of Franklin, and her seven grandchildren, Kevin and Andrew King of Plymouth, Derek Ricardo and his wife Cassie of Plymouth, Keri Ricardo of Plymouth, Krysta Pitney of Plymouth, Amanda (Stone) Cardinale and her husband James of Dedham, and Mark Stone of Paris, France. She was the dear sister of Beatrice Smith of Easton, Jeanne Molinario and her husband Angelo of Plymouth, Hazel Guyot and her husband Robert of Plymouth, Judy DiLorenzo and her husband Rocco of Dedham, the late Pauline Dunn and her husband James of Plymouth, the late William Reitsma and his late wife Gertrude of Melrose, and the late Henry Robert Reitsma and his wife Jean of Plymouth. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
