Shirley Heitbrink Pool, 75, of O’Fallon, IL, died Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville.
She was born Sept. 24, 1935, in Meredosia, the daughter of Owen and Helen Christianer Heitbrink. She married Galen Pool on July 23, 1954, at Trinity Lutheran Church near Meredosia and he survives.
She is also survived by two daughters, Gala (Steven) Gahr of Yardley, PA and Penny (David) Cooper of O’Fallon; four granddaughters, Lauren Gahr, Jordan Gahr, Morgan Cooper and Madelyn Cooper; one sister, Betty (James) Huch of St. Louis; and one half-sister, Darlene (David) Spurrier of Quincy.
Shirley was a lifelong resident of Meredosia until she and Galen moved to O’Fallon to be near their daughter Penny. She was a 1953 graduate of Meredosia-Chambersburg High School and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She had been a librarian for the Meredosia-Chambersburg School District. When she was younger, Shirley was an avid roller skater, bowler and loved athletics. She enjoyed singing, cooking, baking and sitting on her porch.
