Shirley Fortin was born Feb. 3, 1931 to Frank and Alice Schaff at Doland, S. Dakota. She lived her early life in Castlewood and Raymond, S. Dakota and graduated from Raymond High School in 1949.

Shirley was united in marriage to Dale Fortin on June 3, 1949 and was blessed with Monica (Steele), Myron and Dana Fortin. The family farmed in the Turton and Doland area till the destruction of a tornado took them to California.

Shirley was a homemaker until 1972 when she accepted a position as a secretary to Engineer and Mechanic Dept. at Imperial Valley College and later was hired into the El Centro School District.

Dale and Shirley moved to Flagstaff, AZ (1976) where Shirley was employed at the Flagstaff Public Library until her retirement in 2008.

After passing of Dale in (2001) Shirley moved to Cornville, AZ and has been involved with volunteer services for Yavapai Sheriff Dept., Verde Valley Medical Center, Toy for Tots and other organizations. She was known for her baking skills and loving (spoiling) of her pets.She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale and her parents, Frank and Alice. She is survived by her three children, Monica Steele, Myron (Gloria) and Dana, five grandchildren, Kevin Steele (Jennifer), Regan Steele Ahola (Brian), David Hartsock Fortin, Shavonne Fortin Borchardt (Donald) and Elliot Fortin. Four great grandchildren, Lila and Zoe Steele, Dillion Ahola and Madilyn Borchardt.
