Shirley Duffey Lassetter, 81, of Newnan, GA passed away on May 8, 2016, at Piedmont Newnan Hospital. Shirley Lassetter was born in Newnan, Georgia on February 24, 1935, to Curtis and Clyde Duffey.

Growing up, her dream was always to become a nurse. She graduated from Newnan High School and continued on to realize that dream when she attended Georgia Baptist Nursing School in Atlanta and acquired her degree in Registered Nursing. She began her nursing career with Newnan Hospital, remaining there for 45 years when she retired as the Night Supervisor of Nurses. For several years after that, she was a Home Healthcare Nurse with Visiting Nurse Association. As a nurse, it gave her great joy to help others, and was known for her caring way with patients. In the community, she was very generous with her time, talent and gifts. She was a member of the Jaycees Auxiliary, President of the PTA at Atkinson Elementary, member of the First Baptist Church of Newnan, Nurse at Powers Crossroads Festival for many years, Volunteer bell ringer for the Salvation Army on St. Simons Island each Christmas, and a weekly Volunteer at Fairhaven Assisted Living in Brunswick, GA. She had many hobbies that included Arts and Crafts, Needlework, Depression Glass Collecting, and Traveling with friends, but her favorite hobby was shopping! She enjoyed all sports and was an avid fan of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

Shirley is survived by her children, Terri L. Burch (David) of St. Simons Island, GA, and Bobby L. Lassetter Jr. (Shelia)of Newnan, GA; Karen Lassetter grandchildren, Summer L. Elliot of Newnan, GA, Mackey C. Burch of Dallas, TX, and Bennett L. Burch of St. Simons Island, GA; great-grandchild, Austin Elliott of Newnan, GA; brother-in-law, Tommy E. Barnes of Carrollton, GA; sister and brother in law, Ann and Robert Byrom of Newnan, GA; nieces and nephews, Teresa B. Hollis of Sparta, GA, Libby B. Garrett of Newnan, GA, Buddy Barnes of Lawrenceville, GA, Robby Byrom (Julie) of Newnan, GA; stepchildren, Cathy and Gene Anderson of Gainesville, GA, Marsha Henson of Brentwood, TN, Bryan and Ginny Henson of Cookeville, TN, Mark Henson of Newnan, Connie and Greg Perkins of Newnan, and all of their children.

She is also survived by many great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. Lastly, she is survived by many, many close friends, including her lifelong best friends Don and Mildred Jones along with all their children.
