Shirley Dean (Carter) Atwater, passed away on September 4, 2016 in Great Falls, MT. She went to eternal rest after a long courageous fight, her Mom and sister were by her side.
Shirley, the daughter of Lloyd “Curly” Carter and Marjorie (Mann) Carter, was born on June 7, 1941 in Great Falls, MT. She spent her childhood years in Great Falls and Fort Shaw. Her school years were also spent in Great Falls and Fort Shaw.
In 1960, she married her sweetheart, Jack Atwater. Three boys, Rickie Allen, William Lee and Robert Harry were born from their union.
After a serious car accident in November 1971, Shirley spent several years in assisted living and nursing home facilities in the Great Falls area. The last years, she was bound to a wheelchair, but never gave up and fought to survive until the very end. With her fight over, she is now resting peacefully.
Shirley is survived by her three boys, Rick (Cathy) Atwater, Biloxi, MS, Bill (Theresa) Atwater, Apache Junction, AZ, and Bob (Christine) Atwater, Phoenix, AZ; mother, Marjorie Carter, Choteau, MT; sisters, Karen (Rob) Sauke, Simms, MT and Sandra Wooding, Las Vegas, NV; brothers, Terry (Paulette) Carter, Henderson, NV, and Gary (Barb) Carter, Simms, MT; and a sister-in-law, Jessica Carter, Rockvale, TN. Eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive her. Other survivors include an aunt, Myrna McCollum, Great Falls, MT, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her dad, Lloyd Carter; her husband, Jack Atwater; brothers Raymond Carter and Arlen Carter;along with grandparents on both sides of her family.
