Shirley Ann ChapmanAge 71 of St. Charles, was surrounded by her family when she found eternal peace on Saturday, September 30, 2023.Shirley was born on February 2, 1952 to Arthur and Ethel (Dobis) Berg in Saginaw, Michigan. She graduated from St. Charles High School, valedictorian of the class of 1970. Shirley instilled those small-town values into her children as she remained in St. Charles to raise her family. Shirley retired from the United States Postal Service where she built her career from the ground up, displaying her strong work ethic. Many times showing up to work in a snow storm because, “the post office never closes.”Shirley was a friend to all, easily sparking up a conversation with strangers and parting as friends. Her door was never closed, nor her table ever full. Shirley loved to spend time with her friends, who she fondly referred to as family. So much so, she categorized them to keep her social calendar straight; enjoying dinners with the “Bowling Girls,” catching up with her “High School Gals,” and reminiscing with the “Work Crew.” Shirley loved to read and travel, and encouraged others to explore as many places as possible, as she had many past experiences she deeply cherished. She was able to enjoy a recent trip to Hawaii with family, checking off another item on her bucket list. Shirley enjoyed trips to the casino, Michigan State athletics, watching a good football game and cooking and baking for her family. She was especially known for her famous banana cake with homemade frosting, which was a frequent request at birthday celebrations.
