Shirley Ann Stevens Connor, 81, of Clive, Iowa passed away October 2, 2021 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center following a brief illness.
Shirley was born in Iowa City June 19, 1940, to Robert William and Dorothy (Prybil) Stevens. She attended a one-room country school until fourth grade, graduated from Iowa City High School and the University of Iowa Business College with a BBA in Office Management and Business Education.
Shirley met her across-the-hall neighbor, Bob Connor, in 1964, and they married August 14, 1965. She taught business classes at Des Moines Technical High School for five years and then was a stay-at-home mother for their two daughters, Barbara and Deborah. She worked part-time at Plymouth Congregational Church as Education Secretary. During summers she drove her daughters to Missouri Valley tennis tournaments.
Shirley and Bob enjoyed many tours of the US, Canada, Europe and the Caribbean. Especially memorable was the Paris to Normandy cruise with their family to celebrate their 50th anniversary. They also spent several winters at their condo in Naples, FL. She also enjoyed cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Bob; their daughters, Barbara (Craig) Ruschmann, Columbus, OH, and Deborah Kennedy and friend, Steve Titzer, Chicago, IL; brother, Bob Stevens and wife Cindi, Iowa City; brother-in law, Ron Gabriel, Palm City, FL; nephew, Mark Stevens, Decatur, IL, and niece, Katie Boge, Olathe, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Judy and brother, Jim.
