Shirley A. Baughman, 84, of Elkhart, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at Elkhart Meadows to be reunited with her loving husband, Donald L. Baughman, Sr. who preceded her. She was born September 1, 1935 to the late Clem and Margorie A. (Sumpter) McGary.
She is survived by her children, Paula Taylor, Amanda (Rich) Rose, Donna (Mike) Gonzalas, Stanley (Christina) Schott, and Jerry (Debbie) Schott; stepchildren, Sandra (Ed) Rock, Donald (Deb) Baughman Jr., Thomas (Faith Ann) Baughman; 21 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and sister, Zelda McGary. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; daughters, Dawn Schott and Janice Ballege; son, James Schott; sister, Jean Filbert; and brother, Warren McGary.
Shirley married Donald L. Baughman Sr. on August 8, 1964 and worked as a cleaner/waitress for several restaurants and bars in the Elkhart County area. She was also an active member of the Moose Lodge and American Legion in Elkhart for several years. Shirley loved to gamble and have a good time at local casinos, and she was also a “professional” BINGO player. She had a big heart and loved to help people in need, which included but was not limited to people she knew, people she had just met, and animals without a home. Shirley had never met a stranger. She loved her family most of all and enjoyed having a loving household full of her wonderful grandchildren who never failed to make her smile. Shirley will be missed greatly by her loving family and friends.
