HOLLAND – Shirlee (Beck) Bell, a long time resident of Salem and lately a resident of Holland, OH died on Monday, August 6, 2018. She was born on June 23, 1931 in Salem, the daughter of late Rolland Glenn and Hazel Mae (Taylor) Beck.
Shirlee was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Salem, and a current member of Epiphany Lutheran Church in Toledo. She was a graduate of Salem High School and Kent State University. Shirlee was a radiologic technologist by profession and worked and taught radiologic technology at the Salem Hospital for 30 years.
Mrs. Bell and her husband, Roy E. Bell began a school for radiologic technology at the Salem Hospital in 1967 and in 1985 moved the program to Kent State University – Salem Campus.
Shirlee was employed at Kent Salem as an instructor and later as Assistant to the Dean retiring in 2001. She had belonged to several professional societies and had received many awards for her research and essays regarding radiologic technology.
She is survived by her son, Evan Glenn Bell of Toledo; her daughter, Bronwyn Eleen Bell of Holland; her grandchildren: Lauren, Eliza and Brogan Smith and Ashley, Shannon, Dominic and Devan Bell; a sister, Betty B. Caldwell of Sebring; a sister-in-law, Marian Beck of Columbus and she had much loved nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, her husband, Roy Bell, whom she married November 5, 1954, preceded her in death on June 4, 1997. A brother, J. Wendell Beck and a sister, Jean Katherine also preceded her in death.
Her wish is for her children to think of her often and for her grandchildren to remember that she will be with them always.
