“Sherry” remained faithful to her Lord and Savior until the end. “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on. They will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.” Revelation 14:13 NIV
Sherry’s educational foundation began in the Indianapolis Public School System where that great love of academics and people began. She went on to Broad Ripple High School (BRHS) where she and that loving smile and loving personality blossomed: Junior Class President 1977, Senior Class Vice President 1978, Homecoming Queen Court 1978, and Pep Club Member. Sherry graduated from BRHS in 1978. In the fall of 1978, Sherry began her matriculation at Ball State University-Muncie, where more of that warm personality was manifested. She was a Miss Ball State contestant in 1980 and pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Beta Phi Chapter, May 11, 1981 and was number one (1) on her line. Sherry was recognized for her Grade Point Average (GPA) by the African American Council (AAC). She completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Management at Indiana Wesleyan University. Sherry was a student of learning, sometimes referred to as a “Professional Student.
Sherry utilized her professional working skills in a variety of employment opportunities. Until her recent illness and passing, she was a loyal and dedicated employee of Indianapolis Power & Light (AES) for nearly ten years. She was Vice-President of Forte Design, Incorporated and was member of the management team at PNC Bank (formerly Merchants Bank) from 1982-2002. Sherry was the Program Director (Coordinator) for Indiana University Center for Philanthropy for several years and Program/Campaign Associate at United Way of Central Indiana.
Sheryl and James M. Forte were united in marriage, June 17, 1989 and enjoyed more than thirty-one years of marital bliss.
Living life to the fullest, Sherry always made time for her family and friends, many of which she had known since grade school at School #37 and #69. Her warm and bubbly personality and her beautiful smile, that could light up a room, will always be remembered and treasured by all who knew her. Sherry was an “angel on earth” to her family and her passing will leave a serious void in our lives. We do, however, have precious memories of our Sherry to cherish and sustain us.

On Saturday, April 3, 2021, many of Sherry’s family and friends gathered at her home where we talked and prayed with her, in what was called “Good Ole Sherry Fashion.” Despite her illness, Sherry prayed a strong, beautiful, and special prayer, thanking God for her life, family, and friends. She was faithful to her Lord and Savior.
