Sheryl D. Black, 66, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully following an extended illness at the Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018.

She was born July 8, 1951, in Celina, Ohio, to the late Lurline (Frommel) Mohr.

On Aug. 17, 1968, she married Clarence J. Black in Celina. He survives at home after nearly 50 wonderful years together.

Also surviving are her daughters, Stephanie (Brent) Seals of Cassopolis, Michigan and Sherrye Black of Elkhart; son Eric Black of Union, Michigan; brothers Joshua Mohr of Rockford, Ohio and Richard “Rock” (Sally) Mohr of Elkhart; sisters-in-law Annie Mohr of Elkhart and Diane Mohr of Goshen; grandchildren Kendall, Thomas, Kaia, Satchel, Natalie, Vanessa and Nadia; and great-granddaughter Kinslee; as well as one on the way!

Brothers Bruce, Ronald and Verne Mohr and daughter-in-law Nicole Black preceded Sheryl in death.

While Sheryl worked as a ward secretary at the NICU at Elkhart General Hospital for 15 years, retiring due to health issues, she was always known as the quintessential neighborhood “mom”. Her home seemed to be the “epicenter” for all the neighborhood activities, and even after her children had grown, her reputation of love, acceptance and generosity continued to touch the lives of many. Her strength was her family; and through them anything was possible for her.
